About
I am a professional cellist and educator with over 20 years of teaching and performance experience. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Throughout my career, I have maintained an active performing schedule while teaching students of all ages and backgrounds in private studios, music schools, and online.
As a performer, I have appeared with professional orchestras and ensembles, and have collaborated with internationally recognized artists across classical, commercial, and contemporary genres. This diverse performance background allows me to teach not only traditional classical technique, but also the practical skills needed for chamber music, orchestral playing, auditions, and modern performance settings.
As an educator, I have taught hundreds of private lessons and have worked with complete beginners through advanced students preparing for auditions, competitions, youth orchestras, college auditions, and professional opportunities. I have also directed cello ensembles and coached chamber music, helping students develop both technical excellence and confident musicianship.
My ideal students are motivated adults and dedicated young musicians who want to build a strong technical foundation while enjoying the process of making music. I especially enjoy working with adult beginners and returning musicians who have always wanted to learn the cello, as well as intermediate and advanced students looking to refine their technique and artistry.
My teaching philosophy centers on healthy, efficient technique that allows students to play comfortably, confidently, and without unnecessary tension. Every lesson is individualized to each student's goals, whether they want to play for personal enjoyment, prepare for auditions, improve orchestral skills, or perform their favorite repertoire. I emphasize clear explanations, structured practice strategies, and a supportive learning environment that helps students make steady, measurable progress while developing confidence and a lifelong love of music.
