About
Hi! I’m Patrick Sunwoo, and I’ve been teaching and tutoring chemistry and science for over 13 years, including Honors Chemistry at Stuyvesant High School here in New York City.
I have a background in chemistry, STEM education, and instructional technology, with degrees from Wesleyan University, Lehman College, and Teachers College, Columbia Uneiversity. I’m also New York State certified in Chemistry Education and School Building Leadership.
Most of my experience has been in Regents Chemistry, AP Chemistry, SAT Chemistry, and high school and introductory college-level science courses. Over the years, I’ve helped students improve grades, raise exam scores, and, honestly, feel a lot less intimidated by science in general.
What I think makes me a strong teacher is that I’m very good at breaking difficult concepts into manageable parts. A lot of students come to me feeling overwhelmed by chemistry formulas or problem-solving, so I focus heavily on helping students recognize patterns, slow problems down step-by-step, and understand why something works instead of just memorizing procedures.
I also use memory tools, strategies, and shortcuts to make the material more approachable while still building a strong foundation and real understanding. My teaching style is very student-centered, so I always adapt lessons to the student’s pace, learning style, and goals.
At the end of the day, I really enjoy helping students build confidence and reach a point where science starts feeling less stressful and much more manageable.
