About

Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. and professor, with over 20 years of teaching experience in the universities in the United States. 2. Master’s degree in Applied Statistics from Purdue University; qualified to teach high school mathematics and college-level statistics or data analytics. 3. Undergraduate education completed in China, with over 10 years of professional experience in Beijing; native Chinese speaker with strong familiarity with Chinese culture, including activities such as Mahjong and Taiji. 4. Deep understanding of both American and Chinese cultures through extensive professional experience in both countries.

Ideal Students:

1. Middle or high school students seeking to improve their mathematics skills, and college students studying statistics or data analytics. 2. Students, as well as middle-aged adults or seniors, interested in learning Chinese. 3. Middle-aged adults or seniors with a Chinese background who wish to improve their English. 4. Anyone interested in learning Mahjong or gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

My teaching approach:

1) Middle & High School Students (Mathematics) Teaching Approach: Structured + Engaging + Confidence-Building • Diagnostic Start: Begin with a quick assessment to identify gaps (e.g., algebra, fractions, problem-solving) • Step-by-Step Instruction: Use clear, scaffolded explanations with worked examples. • Practice + Feedback Cycle: Assign short, targeted exercises with immediate feedback to reinforce learning • Engagement Strategies: Use real-life examples and/or incorporate small challenges or gamified quizzes • Motivation & Confidence: Provide frequent encouragement, especially for students who may feel “weak” in math.

2) College Students (Statistics and data analytics) Teaching Approach: Conceptual + Applied + Data-Driven • Concept-to-Application Flow: Introduce concepts (e.g., distributions, regression); Immediately apply them to real datasets (Excel, SPSS, or R if applicable) • Case-Based Learning: Use examples from real research contexts • Interpretation Focus: Emphasize how to interpret results, not just calculations • Critical Thinking: Encourage students to question assumptions, biases, and limitations of data • Assignment Design: Mini-projects using real datasets; Data analysis reports rather than only problem sets

3) Students / Adults / Seniors Learning Chinese Teaching Approach: Communication-Oriented + Cultural Immersion • Functional Language Focus: Teach practical phrases first (daily conversation, travel, social interaction) • Listening & Speaking Priority: Use repetition, role-playing, and dialogues; Gradually introduce reading/writing (pinyin → characters) • Cultural Integration: Teach language alongside culture (food, festivals, etiquette) • Pacing Flexibility: Slower, more repetitive for seniors; Faster, goal-driven for younger learners • Memory Techniques: Use pattern recognition and storytelling to help remember characters.

4) Middle-Aged / Senior Chinese Learners of English Teaching Approach: Practical + Supportive + Confidence-Oriented • Everyday English First: Focus on: Conversations (shopping, healthcare, travel); Functional vocabulary • Bilingual Support (if needed): Use Chinese strategically to explain complex grammar. • Low-Stress Environment: Encourage speaking without fear of mistakes; Avoid overly technical grammar explanations initially • Repetition & Reinforcement: Frequent review sessions; Real-life dialogues and role play • Cultural Context: Explain differences in communication styles between Chinese and American settings.

5) Learners Interested in Mahjong or Chinese Culture Teaching Approach: Experiential + Interactive + Story-Based • Learning by Doing: Teach Mahjong through actual gameplay; Introduce rules step-by-step • Cultural Storytelling: Explain background, traditions, and social meaning behind activities. • Interactive Sessions: Combine discussion + hands-on practice; Encourage group participation • Flexible Structure: Less formal, more exploratory and interest-driven
